Years of development has recently resulted in the production of the worlds first sprayed acoustic foam trademarked 'SAFI'.
We have been closely involved with the development of this new material and it provides excellent absorption across the majority of the spectrum.
The material has been successfully used by ourselves to combat the sound generated by skate boarders on metallic skate board ramps where it has three major beneficial effects:-
- Being physically attached to the metallic surface the material dampens the reverberation after an impact.
- The sprayed application which penetrates all nooks and crannies coupled with 25 fold expansion of the foam ensures that all potential air gaps are plugged minimising airborne sound transmission from the underside of the ramp and surrounding enclosure.
- The sound absorption properties of the foam in conjunction with the above effects served to reduce measured sound levels in the vicinity of the ramps by at least 10dB. Due to the logarithmic nature of the scale this represents a 50% diminution in sound energy.
SAFI will be the logical solution to soundproofing problems as diverse as minimising disturbance to neighbours from noisy machinery and processes to stopping aircraft noise from penetrating through the roof into domestic housing. From stopping the sound of rain drumming on single skin roofing to its use in sound fences to create sound shadow from vehicle or other noise.
The material has thermal insulation properties as good as fibreglass or rockwool and can therefore give a valuable double benefit given the right circumstances.
Sprayed application is fast and economical so it helps to make the material cost effective.
SAFI, which is naturally light yellow in colour, can be painted with emulsion paints to improve lighting.
PRICING YOUR BUILDING
Prices are based upon the surface area of the various elements of the building to be insulated.
The following dimensions and information are required to enable a price to be calculated:-
- Length & Width of the building or for complicated shapes a dimensioned plan
- Height to eaves (wall / roof junction)
- Height to ridge (highest point) or approximate roof pitch in degrees.
In addition, because different building materials have flat, corrugated or deeply corrugated surfaces which can significantly affect material usage, it is helpful to have a description of the materials making up the walls and roof of the building
